Eight years is a significant amount of time, providing ample opportunity to prepare for the impending apocalypse. Sean Ryder experienced troubling dreams and vivid memories of events that were dismissed as falsehoods. Despite this, he dedicated those eight years to readying himself and his loved ones for the inevitable disaster.

Meanwhile, four hundred miles away, Charles "Turk" Turksen, a former member of SEAL Team 8, understood that there was no escape from the Afflicted. Instead, he devised a plan to outlast them in order to ensure his survival.
